The Whitsundays
As part of our road trip, we stayed on a boat for two nights in the Whitsunday Islands.
The boat is called the Atlantic Clipper, and it's known for being the party boat that allows backpackers to drink their way around the islands. So we were pretty excited to start our trip!
The boat would usually hold 54 people, but due to covid the capacity was down to 34.
We arrived at the harbour in the afternoon, all checked onto the boat, and were given safety and information briefings.
We started drinking pretty early (maybe too early?) at like 3pm. It felt so good to get to know everyone on the top deck with a drink in hand!
The weather wasn't amazing from the start but we definitely made the most of it, and the Whitsundays are still beautiful whatever the weather!
We were fed really well on the Clipper- dinner the first night was fish with mash and veggies, and the second night was spaghetti bolognese. Lunch was bread rolls and pasta salad, and breakfast was cereal, fruit and yoghurt.
The first night was a big one, blasting music on the top deck and dancing away.
We even saw dolphins and sharks right by our boat under the spotlight.
They turn the music off at 12, which seems early but isn't too bad when you consider we are woken up at 6am each day. The morning wake up call was as jarring as it was funny.
The second day, we went to Whitsunday Island, where Whitehaven beach is.
The views were stunning and the fine white sand was really as soft as everyone says! It was like walking on icing sugar.
Even though it wasn't too warm, we all got in wetsuits and got a chance to get in the sea and saw sting rays swimming around by our feet. A pretty good hangover cure!
Our third and last day on the Clipper, we were up early again and straight in the sea with the big inflatable slide.
This was the moment when one of the crew accidentally dropped my GoPro off the edge of the boat into 15 metre deep water... RIP GoPro 2019-2020
But did I worry about it? Nope, I was on the Clipper, in the Whitsundays, I'm the luckiest girl alive!
And there's something about cruising past the most beautiful islands in the world, with the chill tunes playing and your pals by your side, that makes you forget about all that!
We were dropped back off at Airlie beach harbour later that morning, and many of us were travelling in vans, so we all went back to Nomads to camp there. We all spent the afternoon napping, then went back out for the after party at a nearby bar!
We met some really incredible people on the Clipper, and made some great memories!

Later that afternoon, I felt so tired from taking too many travel sickness tablets, so I was falling asleep at dinner. But it was nothing a two hour nap couldn't solve, and I was back up and ready to party again!
This night, we all got into fancy dress and played some group games on the top deck with the crew, even though it was chucking it down with rain! It wasn't as boozy as the first night but that doesn't mean it wasn't as fun.
