Best food I’ve had while travelling

Food is such a big part of my experience of a place, and it's honestly half the reason why I love Italy so much. And yes, I do eat alone when travelling solo and it's absolutely fine!

Rome, restaurant below Mosaic Hostel

Top of this list HAS to come from Italy. The best food I’ve ever eaten has undoubtedly been in Italy and this in particular was potentially the best meal I’ve ever eaten. It was in a small restaurant right next to my hostel, and close proximity does not always mean the best food so I must have got lucky! I had bruschetta (AKA the love of my life) and a huge bowl of carbonara. It was so delicious, I felt very guilty for not being able to finish the last bite!

Rome, dinner with my dorm mates

You didn’t really think I would make this list without including Italian food at least twice?! Honestly it was difficult to chose the best food I had in Rome because everything I ate was incredible, but this meal was particularly good as I shared it with my dorm mates. They were from Argentina, travelling across Europe together, and they told me so much about their home country and their travels! This made the meal even more enjoyable, which I believe was some kind of seafood pasta.

Krakow, Once Upon A Time in Kazimierz

I wasn’t expecting a whole lot from the food in Krakow, but one local delicacy that I was desperate to try was pierogi, or Polish dumplings. Our group of history students wandered into the Jewish Quarter in search of some pierogi, and along with some googling we managed to find a little place that served good pierogi. This place was tiny, decorated with antiques lining the walls and a pianist bunched in the corner. We were incredibly lucky to be able to get all 10 of us seated as there were only about 10 tables. And the pierogis were as tasty as we had imagined!

Couldn't decide if I prefered the steamed or fried pierogis

Berlin, Burgermeister

Without doing research or hearing about Burgermeister, you may just miss it, dismissing it as a tiny, cheap-looking stall selling street food. But you would be very wrong! It’s based out of a converted public bathroom from 1920 (sounds disgusting, but bear with me) and it’s underneath the Metro track. Burgermeister has had so much Instagram hype in recent years that the queue just to get a burger is astonishing! But the bacon burger and cheesy chips are very worth it.

Soho, Flat Iron Steakhouse

I’m technically counting this as food I’ve had while travelling because it was during my residential stay with Embassy Summer, plus me and my family were being tourists in London for my 20th birthday. Flat Iron specialises in steaks, which you have cooked how you like (obviously medium rare is the best) and then you just order sides around it. Although typically pricey as it is in London, they are SO juicy and delicious. Plus you get a mini cleaver to eat it with!

 All the ice creams!!

And of course, last but absolutely not least, it wouldn’t be a food post without a mention of gelato and ice cream!!
Yummm

Right now I'm off to eat lunch cos writing this has made me starving
