FOMO Festival
In November, I saw there was a festival on in Melbourne around the same time I would be there, with two of my favourite artists playing. I obviously HAD to book a ticket. I was so excited I barely even thought about who I would go with. I was going by myself; I'd find people there or something and it would be fine.
This festival was right before my week-long group tour in Melbourne, which I was arriving early for. A few others arrived early too, and to my surprise, when I mentioned the festival, they booked tickets right away! Over the next couple of days as more people arrived, more wanted to come with me to this festival. Before I knew it, we had a group of 7! Somehow I was even more excited for the day.
It had been a bit rainy and slightly chilly in Melbourne (yes this does sometimes happen in Australia, although when I say chilly I mean like 17°C) for the past few days. But on the day of the festival, the strong Australian sun shone down and it was at least 25°C- perfect festival weather.
The first act we saw was Giggs, who most of us Brits were looking forward to. It was such a nice atmosphere- all of us in the sun dancing on our first day together in Australia.
The next few acts were equally fun- Jax Jones, Meduza, Boogie Wit Da Hoodie. Having a dance and a drink in the beaming sun was an incredible way to get to know each other.
Then came Lizzo. I was SO excited for this, and I had been for the past 2 months, whereas everyone else in my group had only just heard about it in the past few days (some the day before!). Yet they were buzzing too. I danced a lot, sang a lot, and even had a little cry! I was actually quite starstruck by the end!
We ate shortly after Lizzo, and it was the best festival food I've ever had. Sliders (one pulled pork and one calamari) and fries, delicious! And well-earned after all that dancing. I would just like to mention at this point too that it was a very well-organised festival. The queues to get in went quickly, the porta-loos were decent, it was never too littered, and everything just seemed to be run very smoothly.
The last act I was buzzing for was my favourite band- Brockhampton. Most of my new friends were exhausted and left the festival, but Emma and Megan stayed with me to see them.
They. Were. Incredible. I danced and screamed my way through it, did my best to rap along but I really didn't care how mad I looked. It was so much fun!
When we finally got back to our hostel I was too buzzing to go to bed.
This might sound like an exaggeration but I can honestly say this was one of the best days of my life. Such a great start to my time in Melbourne.
Thanks Jess, Willow, Lianna, Emma, Megan and Cal for a great day!
