Packing

One of my favourite things about prepping before a trip is packing. I know, I think it's weird too.
But there's just something about getting ready for your trip, no matter how big or small, imagining everything you might need, and putting it all together as your trip draws ever closer. If you are packing, it means your trip is imminent. So I think that's why I like it so much.

Packing for this trip has been a bigger challenge than when I've packed previously. As I'm going for an extended period, I've had to think about what I might need in the further future, as well as packing clothes that I'll be washing and wearing again and again. I've had to think of outfits that all more or less go together and that are both practical and feel good, as I've got limited space in my backpack.

One of the best things I've bought for this trip are packing cubes. They separate all of your stuff and keep everything organised, rather than just strewn in the bag never to be seen again. I've not even left yet and I already love them.

So without further ado, here is (more or less) everything I've packed for my big trip away.

               A fun hostel in Budapest People are sometimes concerned to hear that I will probably be spending most of my time on my big trip staying in hostels.  They have a bad rep; often they are avoided for fear of being dirty, run-down, and full of loud and inconsiderate backpackers. My plans have changed

When I originally arrived in Melbourne, I had a rough plan to travel up the east coast, but I didn't really know what I was going to do. I met some amazing people on the tour and a lot of them were staying in Melbourne to get jobs, so I decided to do the same. I'd heard there were lots of jobs here so it wouldn't be too difficult. I moved into an apartment with my 3 friends, and we were planning on staying for around 3 months to work. But don't let instagram fool you; it's not been sunsets and beach days all the time. Finding a job proved much more difficult than I thought it would. And now, along with a mixture of lots of other factors, I've been struggling with being here. Whilst I have enjoyed the fun stuff that we've done, and I do really like St Kilda- something isn't quite right. I'm not feeling the excitement about the place anymore, not feeling the inspiration that I felt at the start of the trip. I don't feel totally sett...

Hi! My name’s Charlie Sheppard (Shepp for short) and I LOVE travel. Solo backpacker travel in particular.
