St Kilda

Like many cities, there are many suburbs of Melbourne. They all have their own characteristics and aesthetics
I haven't been to every single suburb (there are 14), I have been to a few and I definitely have a favourite.

St Kilda is the suburb with the best beach and it's got a very chilled vibe. It's just got a slower pace than a lot of the city, especially the CBD.
I saw its charm when we first came here for the beach and then fell in love a week or so later when we stayed in St Kilda for 5 days. I knew I wanted to find a way to live and hopefully even work here.
The street art against beautiful clear skies with the beach just minutes away is really the Australian dream. Along with a collection of independent shops, tattoo shops, restaurants and bars, this makes St Kilda a lovely place to live. There are more palm trees here than the rest of the city which just adds to the chilled, beachy, almost San Diego vibe of the place.

You really can't beat a stroll along the beach front watching the sunset, and of course people watching. Every night in St Kilda you can see penguins who go into the rocks for shelter just after sunset.
A penguin! You can't take photos of them with flash because it can blind them for up to 2 weeks (and anyone that does gets quickly told off by us)

I love St Kilda and I'm so excited to be living here now, hopefully I'll learn even more about it over the next few months.

When I originally arrived in Melbourne, I had a rough plan to travel up the east coast, but I didn't really know what I was going to do. I met some amazing people on the tour and a lot of them were staying in Melbourne to get jobs, so I decided to do the same. I'd heard there were lots of jobs here so it wouldn't be too difficult. I moved into an apartment with my 3 friends, and we were planning on staying for around 3 months to work. But don't let instagram fool you; it's not been sunsets and beach days all the time. My experience with Hostels

               A fun hostel in Budapest People are sometimes concerned to hear that I will probably be spending most of my time on my big trip staying in hostels.  They have a bad rep; often they are avoided for fear of being dirty, run-down, and full of loud and inconsiderate backpackers. They could never be as luxurious as hotels. While all of these stereotypes can be true, I've found that they are generally better than people expect them to be, (often even better than hotels) and they are a fantastic option for the budget-friendly traveller. Another common misconception about hostels is that there is absolutely no privacy with hostels. Goodbye Byron Bay

My time in Byron has finally come to an end. I've learnt so much and grown so much during my three and a half months in Byron, so it feels very bitter-sweet to be leaving. I'm really proud to say that I lived in my van for two months. This is something I wasn't expecting but I'm so glad I did it. I loved it but it certainly was a challenge at times! The past month, as I've known I'll be leaving soon, has been the best and most enjoyable time in Byron. It sometimes works that way as the pressure is off and you are more mindful about the place you're in, making the most of all the opportunities.
