Continuing to trust my gut
One huge lesson I've learnt from my travels so far has been to always go with my gut. It's that deep, instinctual feeling when you're about to do something, telling you if it's a good idea or not. For me, it often comes in the form of when I meet someone or go to do something and it just doesn't feel... right.
It's been good to me so far; I don't want to *jinx* it but generally I've done ok and so far not ran into any huge problems (please don't let this be my famous last words).
But, of course, the world situation at the moment is scary, unpredictable and unprecedented. It's not something my, yours, or your mother's gut will be able to give you a reliable answer on.
Being in the middle of travels during this global pandemic is a really weird situation to be in. I have a lot of friends who are cancelling or changing plans, and don't know what's the best move to make. It's really hard to know what to do, and it's scary.
Just to let you all know the situation, currently in Australia they have not put any travel restrictions on travelling within the country, and walking around, if you didn't know about the global issue (lucky you) then you probably wouldn't suspect anything was different.
I am not cancelling anything yet and I am continuing to do the rest of my trip (only a week to go) until I find a job. Then, I will be more settled and won't be moving around so much.
But we take it one day at a time. The situation could change drastically at any time, and we can't really predict anything that may happen. I realise I'm really lucky to be in the position that I'm in, and I appreciate that travel plans can change at the drop of a hat with circumstances beyond our control.
But I don't want this whole post to be about COVID-19. Trusting my gut is relevant in all situations, travel-related or otherwise, and so far I've learnt how important and useful it is. It won't always say something, but when it does, I definitely listen.
So, even though this is scary, I will continue to trust my gut for all the decisions I make. Whether that's if I should go down that dark alley or not, deciding how I feel about someone I meet, or whether I should go home early or not, my gut will always have a say in the matter.

Good girl! Really hoping that you will continue to be absolutely fine!
ReplyDeleteThanks JMR! I'll keep you updated. SO sorry to hear about your trip being cancelled, so many of my friends are having to change their plans drastically or cancel things :(
