Beaches of Australia

As time in isolation ticks on, my wanderlust grows stronger. It's strange being a traveller who can't travel, so my mind often wanders to past travels!

Australia is known for its beaches, and rightly so. I'm currently in Brisbane which unfortunately doesn't have the best beaches of the whole country, which leaves me reminiscing about all the stunning Aussie beaches I've been lucky enough to see so far.

Here's some of the best to name but a few.

Lorne
Lorne is a small surf town in Victoria that was one of our stops on the Great Ocean Road. It was a beautiful spot to enjoy the fluffy white sand and gorgeous blue water.

Port Campbell
Another stop on the Great Ocean Road trip, the beach at Port Campbell was a small bay with beautiful clear waters. One of my favourite memories of the trip was swimming in the sea here and messing around in the water, standing on each other's shoulders.

Tallow Beach
It goes without saying that Byron Bay is a beautiful beach, of course, but Tallow beach just a little south is an underrated gem. I found this during my time in Byron when I went for a cycle- the beach was almost empty and I had a huge part of it to myself.

St Kilda
Having lived there for over a month, St Kilda beach holds a special place in my heart. It's very flat and long, and lined with a boardwalk- perfect for sunbathing and having a dip when the sun comes out in Melbourne. But the best part was of course going for the sunset to the end of the pier to see the penguins every night.

Bondi
This is arguably the most famous beach in the world, and it's not hard to see why! I wish I got more time here, as I had to catch a bus later in the day, so I only stayed to take some photos and have some brunch. It's usually absolutely packed so I was lucky that I got to see it not too busy.

Phillip Island
This was where we surfed on the Welcome to Travel tour, and I believe the beach was called YCW Beach. It was the perfect setting for my first surfing session, despite the choppy conditions and haze from the smoke.

Nudgee Beach
These days, on a busy day with the kids you'll often find me heading down to Nudgee beach. It's not quite as beautiful as the white-sand, clear-water beaches I've seen in Australia before, but it already holds memories! The kids love playing in the water and seeing the crabs.
