Last weekend- venturing out a little more

I'm so grateful to be in a country where the covid restrictions are really easing up now. On 1st June travel within the whole state opened back up again, and many restaurants, cafes, shops, and outdoor playgrounds are now open again. Social distancing is still in place and many places are still takeaway only, but hopefully we should be at our new normal by July.

So I've been venturing out a little more and seeing friends where I can. Last weekend I saw my amazing friends who I lived with in Melbourne. It was the first time I had seen them since I left St Kilda in February so I was so excited!
They are working on a farm in Caboolture, about a 40 min drive from me, which was just a happy accident. This also goes to show how lucky I am to have a car to use in my spare time, as I'm not sure how I'd get out to places like this without it.
We piled in the car and drove to Bongaree beach on Bribie Island. It was great weather for the first time in a few days, which made for a stunning sunset overlooking the Glasshouse Mountains!

The next day, I went to Noosa for the first time since being stranded there on my backpacking trip in March. Noosa was the last place I was properly travelling, and I loved it so I was itching to get back for the gorgeous coastal walk. The drive to Noosa is about 1hour 40 mins so plenty of time for a little weekend day trip there.
I saw my lovely friends Caroline and Megan and we spent a dreamy day on the beach next to the sparkling blue waters. I hadn't seen Megan since all the way back to our Great Ocean Road Trip at the end of January So we had a lot of catching up to do!

Sunbathing and of course doing a photoshoot made me miss being a backpacker, something I am anxious to get back to soon. The weather was absolutely gorgeous for a Queensland autumn, so us being British and Canadian we completely did not mind laying out in the sun! Treating ourselves to ice cream and burgers on the beach was a great way to celebrate our mini reunion.

Both of those drives that weekend were beautiful; I feel so good when I'm just driving along the open road with my music blaring. With the sun, my music, and the Google maps woman shouting at me, I don't have a care in the world. I'm pretty addicted to my phone so there's something about driving and not being able to be on your phone, being forced to be present, that is freeing and mindful.

This was the nicest end to the nicest week, and I've been feeling very good about things recently. It feels amazing that Australia is well on truly on the road to being back to 'normal' now, and my anxiety surrounding covid has not been an issue recently. I'm learning to cope with it and I'm understanding ways of looking after myself so that I'm equipped to ease it.

Here's to many more weekends, day trips, and good days in Wooloowin, and to seeing more of beautiful Queensland.

This weekend I'm going back to Caboolture, and going to another farm out west to see some other friends!

Shepp x

P.S. I've now agreed with the family some time off- I'm gonna take 3 weeks in July over my birthday to do some more travelling! Then I'll come back to the family to work with the kids some more. Travel plans to come when I actually make some lol
