Skydiving Over Cairns
Had to write a separate blog post for this because it was just so amazing...
I still can't believe we did this!
We jumped out of a plane at 15,000ft!!
We had originally planned to do the skydive at Mission Beach, as this is where you get to actually land on the beach. But by the time we booked they had ran out of spots for two people, and there was no way in hell we were gonna do it individually.
So we had to get to Cairns in time to do our skydive there. We were soo nervous beforehand; we couldn't even talk about it until a few days before!
I'm usually quite good at steadying my nerves with adrenaline-inducing activities but this was something else, I really wasn't sure how I was going to handle it.
The day of the skydive, Ryley and I both woke up and immediately laughed at each other in disbelief that we were even going to do this.
Once I was up and getting ready, I was less nervous and more excited (so long as I didn't think about it too much..)
We got to the office, and it was a good hour of filling out forms and the instructional video. This just made us even more nervous but excited! I also took this time to write 'G'day mate' on my arm so you could see it in the video.
I squeezed my eyes shut as we jumped out but forced myself to open them again cos that view was just stunning!
The most fun part was the freefall where we were horizontal with our arms out.
I felt ALIVE.
You can see in the video I've got a big beaming smile on my face the whole time! I was looking out at the horizon saying 'wow' the whole way down.
That lasted about a minute, and then G pulled the parachute. This flippin hurt, as did the harness on my legs as we were flying down, but I didn't care cos I was too busy taking in all the views. We could see the whole coast line, the river and all the inlets, and all of Cairns, plus it was such a beautiful clear day.
As we floated down, every time G turned the direction of the parachute, my stomach dropped like on a rollercoaster, and this was probably the worst bit.
We landed by putting our legs up and then just standing right up as we hit the ground.
I was shaking so much with adrenaline!
I originally paid for just the handheld camera video, but one of the guys filmed me on the way down, and it was such a great video I had to buy that one too! I think I may have spent the same (if not more) on the videos than the actual skydive, but I had to have a video of it; how often do you jump out of a plane...?
And now I've always got that fantastic memory of an experience I'll never forget.

Pretty soon it was time to go. We got our harnesses, and got into a minibus for a 10 minute drive to the airport.
Walking across the tarmac to the plane, I couldn't believe what we were about to do!
We all sat backwards in the plane attached to our tandem instructor. As the plane took off, I started singing Lizzo to calm my nerves. The views were incredible but I was just laughing nervously at how high we were flying!
I was third out of four to jump out of the plane, and it was so nervvy watching the first two just fall right out before me. Poor Ryley had to go last!
Before I knew it, it was my turn. I was most nervous for the part where you are dangling out of the plane waiting to jump, but that was really only 1 or 2 seconds so it wasn't too bad.
