I Bought a Campervan!

For those that don't already know, I'm beyond excited to say that I bought a campervan!

This might seem like a spontaneous buy, but I had been planning to get a vehicle to travel in for after my farm work.

I had fallen in love with road tripping when me and Ryley hired a campervan in July, so I knew my goal was to get one myself to do the same for more of my travels in Australia.

Since then, I've spoken to a lot of different people who have had vans and bought vehicles in Australia, and all my mates here who have done similar things. I've been gathering what information I can so I can be informed to make the best decision for myself.

So, last week I was talking to a friend at work about it, and it convinced me to start looking now. There was no rush, but may as well look now and if I come across something that would suit me then I'd get it.

I started looking on Facebook marketplace, Gumtree and Car Sales Australia and found some listings that looked decent and suited my needs and budget.

We were planning on being in the Gold Coast for a birthday that weekend, so I arranged a van inspection of one of the listings I found in the GC.

I was going in with an open mind, didn't want to be hasty but if it was good I'd get it. The inspection and test drive went really well and I fell in love with it! It runs really well, has everything I need, and the interior is fitted out really well. So I snapped it up and drove it home on Monday!

The van's name is Ian, apparently because of it's old rego plate, and I just thought that was too funny not to change!

For those interested, here's a quick written van tour of everything included:

Stove

Sink
This works on a pump and the grey water just goes straight out the bottom of the van

Fridge

Storage
There's actually so much storage in this van and each of these cupboards are huge

Bed
Most of the time this is the sofa, and underneath there's a wood panel which I just pull out, rearrange the cushions and there's my bed! There's also more storage underneath for the bedding. It's dead comfy!

Toilet
So excited that this van has a toilet. It means I can be a bit more flexible with campsites as this technically makes it a self-contained vehicle. It obviously needs emptying and works using different chemicals in the base.

Cab
Pretty standard, but I was excited when I saw there is space for 2 passengers in the front!

Roof box
This will also be pretty handy for storage, plus there is a Jerry can holder there too (I need to buy a Jerry can).

I'm so happy to have fulfilled a big dream of mine to own a campervan in Australia. For now, I'll be able to use it to get to work and to get away on the weekends, but once I'm done with the farm work in a couple of months I'll be making much bigger road trips.

Whatever happens, I'm stoked to have Ian in my life and to start making him my own!

Shepp (and Ian) x
