Why Halloween might be the best holiday
Since we've just celebrated Halloween I wanted to do an appreciation post for one of my favourite times of year.
Anyone who's seen any of my Instagram stories around the end of October before knows that I live for Halloween.
I LOVE making my own costumes and I spend months in advance coming up with a new idea each year.

Last year as the house from Spongebob Squarepants
And the year before that as a bag of jellybeans...
This year I was pretty proud of myself especially considering it was done on a backpackers budget and a farmworkers effort!
Anyone who compared it to the jellyfish Ernie and Bernie from Shark Tale, I thank you graciously for this honourable compliment.
Recognising all this fun, I'd like to make the case for Halloween being the best holiday.
All you Christmas lovers, hear me out. I love Christmas just as much as the next guy, but you can't deny there's a pressure in the lead up to Christmas. What presents to buy for people, what food to buy for the big day, and trying to make do's as special as possible. It can just all be a bit too much.
But with Halloween, that pressure isn't really there. There's no presents to waste money on, thank God, and no one really cares about it that much.
Even for us, we didn't know exactly what we would do until the last minute. Our minds changed about ten times over whether we should stay in Gatton or go to Brisbane, before finally deciding to go to our mate's house party.
And what a great decision that was! We had a great time playing drinking games, and not having to worry about not being allowed to dance in a Brisbane club!
Unlike me, most people's costumes were last minute. And when I say last minute, I mean it. We had a 'solar panel' who just straight up wrapped herself in tin foil, and then her boyfriend was 'the safety manager' who just wore every piece of high vis and PPE he could find.
But that was so fine! It made it even funnier seeing people's creativity and stupidity collide in such a hilarious way...
I realise a lot of people don't really do Halloween, and I guess it is either for young people like us to get drunk or kids to eat loads of sweets. But I think more people should get into it! It's an excuse to have some silly fun and let your creative side out for just one day in the year.
Better start thinking of my costume for next year...

But that just means there's not so much disappointment, as everyone is just out to have a good time and not really worrying too much about it being perfect, because no one had too much of an idea of what they were going to do for it anyway. There's less unnecessary hype which leads to an inevitable anti-climax.
