End of the road trip

Mine and Keiran's road trip has now come to an end (update on that to come in a separate post).
It's been so fun but it has to be said that there have been some hard and emotional times.

Constantly figuring out where to go, where to stay, what to do etc can be stressful and a bit scary.
Often we wouldn't plan ahead enough and we'd be somewhere at 9 o'clock at night with nowhere to stay and no food.
This means we would often have to resort to stealth camping which wasn't always ideal and once resulted in a $220 fine. What would an Aussie road trip be without a fine, ey?...

Plus, the bad weather really messed with our plans more than I had anticipated. It was a shame when all we wanted to do was lie on the beach but it was raining, but obviously there are always things to do inside to keep you busy. The main reason the rain was annoying was the fact we were living in the van so essentially camping. Waking up in the morning to everything being wet and your foot in 6 inches of water outside just to go to the toilet isn't really how we envisioned our road trip.

We spent all our money and we're very exhausted, so it does feel good to finally be in one place for a while and out of the van.

But I'm not trying to be completely negative, we did still have a great time! We saw some awesome places and met some lovely people. And I'm pleased to say I've now done all of the East Coast that I wanted to!

The most special moments for me were when nothing was really going on.
Eating peanut butter and crackers by the beach watching the kangaroos.
Driving along a big empty road with trees on one side and the beach on the other.
Wind in my hair and music up loud.
Waking up really early in the morning and hearing the ocean right outside the window.

For me, this is what it's all about.

We also both learnt a lot over this trip. Living in a tiny space together for a month, you really learn a lot about each other, so me and Keiran are closer friends than ever.

We also learnt you sometimes need space from each other. How we didn't kill each other on this trip I have no idea... Twice it all got a bit too much and we just needed to sleep inside somewhere where we could charge our phones, so we got a hostel for the night. This ended up being a great decision as we left feeling rested, plus this is where we met some great people!

This road trip has honestly been a lot of ups and downs. We've been more and more broke by the minute. It's been absolutely wild at times, and at other times terrifying.
That's what I'd call an adventure.
