The Whole World is my Backyard

I recently embarked on my first big solo road trip, and I'm super excited about it!

I originally did want to travel with someone. Ian is big enough for two people and it's always good to have company on the road. However unfortunately I couldn't find anyone to come with me- everyone was either in the wrong place or our schedules just didn't match up properly.
As I was in Brisbane seeing mates and preparing the van, the idea of going alone grew on me more and more. I liked the sound of going completely at my own pace, doing only and exactly what I wanted to do every day. I could go to the beach and write, draw, play my new drum (I recently bought a steel tongue drum, it sounds so beautiful I'm very excited about this)

Plus, I'd have lots of friends to visit on the way up, and if I really did want to meet people I could just check into a hostel for a bit.
So that was it, as soon as I got the van ready I decided to leave the next day.

And the first day has gone well!
This isn't normally how I write but I think since I'm on my own I want to properly document it, plus I'll have more time to write. I'm going to try and write at least a sentence every day, to document what I get up to and how I feel about it. I'd also like to do a song of the day; I'll of course be listening to a lot of music this trip and I think a song for each day could encapsulate how I felt about that day.

So, to start off, the first day of the road trip has gone really well!
It's super exciting and I forgot how different the world feels on the road. With the van I always say I'm driving my bedroom around, so it's like the whole world is my backyard.

I didn't really even know where I would end up today when I woke up this morning! Not having a plan is so freeing and fun.
But I did know I wanted to take a little detour while I still had the chance to go to Springbrook National Park. This has been on my list for a while as it's the national park that I'm a Celebrity was filmed in! (Before covid obviously...)

I went to Purling Brook Falls and did one of the walking tracks. It was really beautiful and I'm so glad it was a gorgeous Queensland day to showcase the natural beauty of the area.

After this I went back to the Gold Coast for a bit, and grabbed some dinner. As it's the first night of my solo road trip I thought I'd treat myself and went on a little solo date.

Song of the day: Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd

What can I say I'm just feeling very free and excited for what's to come!

It's a great start and I can't wait to see where I end up next !
