On Sunday, I met up with some of my fantastic uni friends, Lucy, Hannah, Eleanor and Jack, for a catch up in London. We headed to Shoreditch, an area of London I've rarely been to, in search of good food and drinks for a chill Sunday catch up. (Shout out to Eleanor for finding all of the places we went to) Firstly, we all met in a cute little Korean restaurant called On The Bab. Here we all got various bits to eat, and I got these delicious chicken gyozas. A really lovely spot to start nattering and catching up! Then we went on to Boxpark. This is a huge shipping container converted into a mini mall with shops, restaurants and bars. It's very trendy and seems to really fit into the Shoreditch/Hackney vibe. Shortly following the post about the best places I’ve eaten during my travels, I thought it would be fitting to write about the best places to drink. This list ranges from chill bars, to sensational cocktails, to boozy nightclubs! Szimpla Kert, Budapest One of the coolest bars I’ve ever been to, Szimpla Kert is one of the famous ruin bars that Budapest is so well-known for. I remember being surprised at how huge it was; there are many different levels and rooms you can easily get lost in. The trendy décor is easily the best part, so it’s a fantastic Instagram opportunity! Tiki Bar, Costa Brava This was a cute little bar we found on our girls holiday to Spain, that did huge gorgeous cocktails! Pina colada was obviously a fav, as was a sex on the beach. Food is such a big part of my experience of a place, and it's honestly half the reason why I love Italy so much. And yes, I do eat alone when travelling solo and it's absolutely fine! Rome, restaurant below Mosaic Hostel Top of this list HAS to come from Italy. The best food I’ve ever eaten has undoubtedly been in Italy and this in particular was potentially the best meal I’ve ever eaten. It was in a small restaurant right next to my hostel, and close proximity does not always mean the best food so I must have got lucky! I had bruschetta (AKA the love of my life) and a huge bowl of carbonara. It was so delicious, I felt very guilty for not being able to finish the last bite! I have a bucket list of international places as long as both my arms, but we often forget about the places right on our doorstep. Normally when I travel around my home country it’s to see friends or family, or to do a specific activity. But if I had the time or money, these places would be top of the list! Ireland Sad to say I’ve never been to Ireland! I would love to see it one day, particularly The Giants Causeway. My family have been here but I didn’t get the chance to go with them at the time! Budapest is lovely.. unless you break your bones Although I will still say that I had an amazing time on this trip, at the end it did go spectacularly wrong. This story of course involves a lot of alcohol, mixed with a bit of carelessness and a lot of bad luck, which is basically a recipe for disaster. It was the final night of the HistSoc Tour of 2018 in Budapest, which had thus far been a drunken whirlwind of a winter city getaway, where we dragged ourselves out of bed hungover to cram in seeing the historical sites of the city. Budapest really is beautiful by the way; that day we had just been to the stunning Sz é chenyi thermal baths. The plan was that after the tour of around 30 of us went home, a smaller group of 6 of us were due to catch another flight on to Prague to continue our rowdy tour of Europe. I’ve been lucky enough to travel to many different countries across the world. To commemorate these trips, I recently made a display on my bedroom wall of most of the countries I’ve been to. I thought this would be a good chance to look back at each of these places.   California I went to California with my family when I was 10 as part of a big USA trip. This was one of my favourite places in America, especially San Diego which had a nice laidback vibe. This photo is of course from San Diego Zoo. Arizona In the same trip we were lucky enough to get to Arizona/Nevada to see Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon. It was incredible to see one of the natural wonders of the world.
